For this flight, EL AL will allocate a special Boeing 777 emblazoned with the Vatican insignia and with the olive branch - the universal symbol of peace.
EL AL CEO Haim Romano: "EL AL, Israel’s national carrier, is proud to offer its services to the Pope and his entourage on his historic visit to Israel and to provide the Papal delegation with a special flight at the end of the visit. We are preparing to meet all the needs of the pilgrimage tourism that will accompany the Pope’s visit in Israel, and have assigned an especially well skilled crew for the flight." The Pope and his entourage of 30 clergymen and 70 journalists will enjoy personal, special and prestigious inflight service. The crew was carefully chosen and received special training for this flight. EL AL has planned a sumptuous meal based on contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, using the best of Israel’s produce. The Pope and other passengers on the flight will be given unique Israeli gifts that represent leading Israeli companies, as mementoes of the flight. Together with the Ministry of Tourism, EL AL is working to use the Pope’s visit to Israel as a means of encouraging pilgrimage tourism from all over the world, and especially from South America. Tens of thousands of pilgrims are expected in Israel during the period of the Pope’s visit. Likewise, in response to the demand by tourist and pilgrimage groups visiting Israel to combine tours of Israel and Egypt, EL AL is now adding two weekly flights to Cairo, for a total of four per week. The additional flights will make it possible to provide groups from North and South America with a choice of combination packages. It will meet the needs and interests of both business and tourist sectors, while promoting tourism to Israel. |
